Unlimited Sonic Use presents: BIG ‡ BRAVE – Genre: Otherworldly Drone Doom Ritual FFO: Björk, Beth Gibbons, Earth, SUNNO))) BIG ‡ BRAVE, the elemental ensemble of guitarist/vocalist Robin Wattie, guitarist Mathieu Ball, and drummer Tasy Hudson, harness an earthen heaviness composed of distorted and textural drones, austere bombast, and Wattie’s heart-rending voice. Like recent collaborators The Body, BIG ‡ BRAVE is at the forefront of reconfiguring the landscape of heavy music. The trio brandish sparseness and density like weapons, cast tense atmospheres with languid tempos and mutate feedback into eruptions of enveloping tempests. “Nature morte” sharpens BIG ‡ BRAVE’s ferocity and expansive sound into emotional elegies for the disenfranchised, wringing abstracted textures and pure fervence into songs of unfathomable mass. “Nature Morte”, the new album by Big ‡ Brave, was released via Thrill Jockey on February 24th, 2023. https://bigbrave.bandcamp.com/album/a-chaos-of-flowers Aicher (Liam Andrews from My Disco) – DK | Downwards Records / Boomkat https://aicher.bandcamp.com/ Genre: Experimental Drone Noise FFO: SUNNO))), Merzbow, Nad,a AICHER is the latest project of København-based musician Liam Andrews. Working within the atonal and monochromatic aesthetics he’s drawn to, the inclusion of place and the environmental influence of the bleak Scandinavian winters prove to be the perfect antidote. Eerie hollows of wind, solitude and the crushing of ice underfoot place the soundscape of the north into the brutalist path he is known for. Extra Life – USA | Last Things Records https://extralife.bandcamp.com/ Genre: Sinister Medieval Goth Prog FFO: Gentle Giant, Kayo Dot, Secret Chiefs, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum Extra Life was formed in 2007 as the main vehicle for New York-based composer/vocalist/guitarist, Charlie Looker. The band plays a highly unusual synthesis of dark pop, math/prog rock, metal, modern classical, and ancient liturgical music. Looker was a founding member of NY noise-chamber outfit ZS, and has been a prolific collaborator across the experimental music scene, with credits including Dirty Projectors, Xiu Xiu, John Zorn, Lingua Ignota, Tyondai Braxton, and Amanda Palmer. After a nine year hiatus, Looker reunited Extra Life in 2022, with a new line-up including Toby Driver (Kayo Dot). They released Secular Works, Vol. 2 . on Looker’s own label, Last Things, which garnered praise internationally. In 2023, the band did a month-long tour of the EU and UK, and in 2024, they will return to EU for another month, including a slot at A Colossal Weekend festival (Copenhagen). |
